The Jammu & Kashmir Police have clarified that the Tangmarg incident in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district was merely a road rage incident, dismissing any claims of illegal, immoral, or unethical activity.
Incident Overview
According to an official statement by the police, the incident occurred at 1:45 PM when an XUV-300 vehicle with a Haryana registration number carrying five occupants (three males from Haryana and two females from South Kashmir) was attacked by a group of miscreants in the jurisdiction of Tangmarg Police Station.
- A police team rushed to the spot to rescue the occupants but was also attacked, resulting in a Head Constable sustaining a head injury.
- Several local residents assisted the police in rescuing the victims.
- An FIR has been registered at PS Tangmarg, and the assailants are being identified for legal action.
Investigation Findings
The preliminary investigation revealed:
- The incident originated from a road rage altercation in Srinagar, following which several vehicles trailed the XUV-300 to Tangmarg.
- Upon catching up, individuals from the trailing vehicles attacked the occupants of the XUV-300.
- No evidence of illegal, immoral, or unethical activity involving the vehicle’s occupants has emerged.

Authorities have warned against social media rumors that attempt to misrepresent the incident and incite unrest. The police have started profiling individuals spreading misinformation, and legal action will be taken against them.
