Incident Overview

According to an official statement by the police, the incident occurred at 1:45 PM when an XUV-300 vehicle with a Haryana registration number carrying five occupants (three males from Haryana and two females from South Kashmir) was attacked by a group of miscreants in the jurisdiction of Tangmarg Police Station.

  • A police team rushed to the spot to rescue the occupants but was also attacked, resulting in a Head Constable sustaining a head injury.
  • Several local residents assisted the police in rescuing the victims.
  • An FIR has been registered at PS Tangmarg, and the assailants are being identified for legal action.

Investigation Findings

The preliminary investigation revealed:

  • The incident originated from a road rage altercation in Srinagar, following which several vehicles trailed the XUV-300 to Tangmarg.
  • Upon catching up, individuals from the trailing vehicles attacked the occupants of the XUV-300.
  • No evidence of illegal, immoral, or unethical activity involving the vehicle’s occupants has emerged.

Warning Against Misinformation

Authorities have warned against social media rumors that attempt to misrepresent the incident and incite unrest. The police have started profiling individuals spreading misinformation, and legal action will be taken against them.

Police Acknowledgement

The J&K Police have appreciated the good samaritans of Tangmarg who stepped in to help control the situation and support law enforcement.

Further investigations are ongoing, and strict action will be taken against those responsible for the attack and for spreading fake news.
