Junaid Azim Mattu Resigns from J&K Apni Party, Citing Ideological Differences
Srinagar, Aug 28: Junaid Azim Mattu, former Mayor of Srinagar and a prominent figure in Jammu and Kashmir politics, has resigned from the J&K Apni Party. In a statement, Mattu cited a fundamental clash between his personal beliefs and the party’s ideology as the primary reason for his departure.
Mattu expressed that remaining with the party would be dishonest as his convictions no longer align with the party’s direction. He conveyed his gratitude to Apni Party President Syed Muhammad Altaf Bukhari, acknowledging his guidance and support throughout his political journey. However, he emphasized that the party is now free to field an appropriate candidate from the Zadibal constituency in his place.
Mattu plans to address the media in the coming days to share his views, answer questions, and outline his future intentions. He hinted at aligning his efforts with his faith and convictions, even if it might be challenging in the short term.
Reflecting on his recent Hajj pilgrimage, Mattu revealed that it was a time of introspection and spiritual commitment, during which he vowed to adhere to his principles. This experience, combined with consultations with his supporters and workers, led him to his decision to resign.
Mattu acknowledged the difficulties that lie ahead for him and his loyal supporters but reaffirmed his commitment to speaking truth to power, regardless of the challenges it may bring.
