Baramulla: A truck driver was shot dead near Jamkash Vehicles in Chinned Sangrama, Baramulla, while traveling from Srinagar to Baramulla. The victim has been identified as 35-year-old Waseem Majeed Mir, son of Abdul Majeed Mir, a resident of Goripora Darpora Bomai, Sopore. After sustaining bullet injuries, he was rushed to Government Medical College (GMC) Baramulla, where doctors declared him dead. His body has been kept at the hospital for further legal procedures.

Following the incident, senior police officials arrived at GMC Baramulla to assess the situation.

Meanwhile, the Army issued a statement explaining the sequence of events. According to the statement, a Mobile Vehicle Check Post (MVCP) was set up in Baramulla on February 5, 2025, based on intelligence inputs regarding terrorist movement. During the operation, security forces noticed a civilian truck speeding suspiciously. Despite multiple warnings, the driver allegedly failed to stop and instead accelerated while passing the checkpoint.

Security forces pursued the truck for over 23 kilometers. To bring it to a halt, troops fired at the tyres, eventually stopping the vehicle at Sangrama Chowk. A search was conducted, and the injured driver was immediately taken to GMC Baramulla, where he was later pronounced dead.

The Army further stated that the truck, which was fully loaded, has been taken to the nearest police station. A detailed search is being conducted, and investigations are ongoing into the background of both the driver and the vehicle’s contents.
