Winter Vacation Extended in Kashmir? The Kashmir Valley is abuzz with speculation regarding the extension of winter vacations in light of the ongoing wet weather spell. However, the School Education Department has clarified that no decision has been made yet regarding this matter.
Piyush Singla, the Administrative Secretary of the School Education Department, addressed the rumors surrounding the extension of winter vacations, stating, “As of now, we have not made any decision. If there are any developments, we will inform the students accordingly.”
Meteorological officials in Srinagar had previously indicated that the weather is expected to remain cloudy from February 28-29, with a possibility of light rain and snow in isolated areas.
Additionally, light to moderate rain along with snowfall is forecasted for some places from March 2 to March 3.
Earlier statements from the Director of School Education Kashmir (DSEK), Tassaduq Hussain Mir, highlighted the department’s monitoring of weather conditions.
Vir stated, “We are closely monitoring the weather, and any decision regarding the extension of vacations will be made based on these conditions.”
In November 2023, Alok Kumar, the then Principal Secretary of the School Education Department, had informed KNO that providing heating arrangements to all government school students during winter was challenging due to the large number of schools and limited facilities available.
The Director, Tassadug Hussain Mir, reiterated that a decision on extending winter vacations will be made after consultation with the Administrative Secretary.
