Srinagar Woman Leaves Husband to Marry Facebook Friend in UP, Travels 1,300 km

A married woman from Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, left her husband to marry a man she met on Facebook in Uttar Pradesh, covering a distance of 1,300 kilometers, according to reports.

The woman, Abiral, an MBBS doctor, married Vinod Kumar in 2017 at an Arya Samaj temple in Mohali, Punjab. However, their marriage faced difficulties over time. During this period, Abiral developed a friendship with Dr. Faizan Ahmed, a resident of Rae Bareli, Uttar Pradesh, through Facebook.

Their online bond grew stronger, and in December 2024, Abiral drove from Srinagar to Rae Bareli to meet Faizan. They eventually got married following traditional rituals, according to media sources.

Vinod Kumar, surprised by her decision, filed a police complaint at Deeh police station in Rae Bareli. He accused Faizan of influencing his wife and claimed that Abiral took Rs 5 lakh worth of gold, Rs 2 lakh in cash, and a mobile phone when she left.

“The woman has stated she wants to live with her lover,” said Shivkant Pandey, the officer in charge of Deeh police station. He added that an investigation is ongoing and action will be taken based on the findings.

It is unclear whether Abiral formally ended her relationship with Kumar or simply left to live with someone else. Details about her residence in Srinagar were not immediately available.
