Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir government has officially announced that end-of-year exams for students up to Class 9 in the Kashmir Valley will take place in December, ending weeks of uncertainty around the exam schedule. This decision follows the recent academic calendar update, which designates November and December as the final months of the school year for primary and middle school students.
Education Minister Sakina Itoo reassured students and parents, emphasizing that necessary measures will be taken to handle the cold winter conditions. “Exams up to Class 9 will be conducted in December. Parents and students should not worry about the cold weather. We will make all necessary arrangements in the examination halls. Exams were held in December in previous years as well,” Itoo stated to KINS.
Since adopting a Uniform Academic Calendar in 2022-23, the region has moved toward standardized schedules. This year marks the first firm scheduling of December exams for lower classes, reflecting a shift to align the academic year across grade levels.
Looking ahead, students in Classes 10 to 12 will also follow the November-December exam cycle beginning next year, further standardizing the calendar for higher secondary education.
The clarification has been well-received by parents and educators, who are relieved to have a clear timeline and appreciate the government’s commitment to making examination conditions comfortable despite the winter weather.
